The hardest part of getting a cold

It’s easy to get rid of a cold. You know the formula.

  1. Sleep.
  2. Don’t go to work.
  3. Flood yourself with water (using a straw makes this easier).
  4. Constantly sip herbal tea with honey.
  5. Have a green smoothie for breakfast.
  6. Have hot soup with tons of hot sauce for lunch.
  7. Have orange slices at night.
  8. Do a neti pot before brushing your teeth (twice daily, duh).

The tricky part is actually doing it.

Just remember: you have sick days for a reason.

Use ’em, and use ’em right.

Understanding annoying mornings

If you’re having an annoying morning, ask yourself:

  • Do I perhaps not know everything?
  • Is there a chance I don’t know what’s best?
  • Could I have listened better?
  • Was there a missed opportunity to check in?
  • Did I assume someone should know?
  • Do I sense someone is gonna ignore your advice?

If the answer is yes to any of these questions, maybe the annoying morning is just an annoying you.

Dog person logic

If you are a dog person, you are a good person.

Then, of course, if you are not a good person, you are not a dog person.

But it doesn’t mean if you are a good person, you are a dog person. Nor does it mean that if you are not a dog person that you are not a good person.

So remember this:

If you are a good person and are not a dog person, you are invited over for dinner.

One person

Aim to please one person.

Your fans? Your audience? Your subscribers?

They’re not one person.

Pick one of them. One person.

And remember you’re included in all those lists.

(Yes, this pleases me.)

On getting out of bed

When you wake up on the weekend, what’s the plan for the day?

Sure, there are errands and chores and obligations.

But generally speaking, the plan is to do whatever makes for a happy, healthy life, right?

And on the weekends, isn’t it MUCH easier (than weekdays) to get out of bed?

So, if the WEEKDAY plan for the day is to do whatever makes for a happy, healthy life, wouldn’t it be MUCH easier (than if the plan is to go make money) to get out of bed in the morning?

It sure is for me.

Three years of awkward

It took me three years to figure out high school.

Three years to figure out college.

Three years to figure out consulting.

Three years to figure out blogging.

Three years to figure out being a dog dad.

Three years to be comfortable enough doing my job without it, deep down, feeling awkward.

And, oh, what a good realization it is.

Probably both

Walking with my dog. Working out. A green smoothie. A NOYOKE shake. Writing in my notebook. Listening to music. Drinking water. Breathing slowly. Reading.

All of these things help my brain when it needs a fix.

So if I spend a majority of my days doing these things, does that mean my brain is almost always broken? Or am I just the most fortunate mf ever?

Stay or go?

What’s the cost of leaving?

  • Guaranteed salary?
  • Possible bonus?
  • Uncertainty?

What’s the cost of staying?

  • Today’s opportunity?
  • Your health?
  • Life without regret?

Assuming today’s opportunity won’t be there tomorrow (or will get smaller), your health is more costly (and valuable) tomorrow, and, of course, regret of not acting only grows, the case to stay gets weaker every day.

Problem is, the scale only shifts a tiny bit every day.

So when you happen to notice a big jump in the scale’s imbalance, know it’s going to be a tough day. But be grateful that, compared to yesterday, the imbalance has become clear.
